Privacy Policy

What we collect

• Email address — collected when you sign in with Google, used to identify your account and household

• Photos — only when you use the pantry scan or receipt scan features, to extract items via AI. Photos are processed in real time and are not stored after the request completes

• Your pantry, dishes, recipes, and meal-plan content — including any text prompts you send to Miso's AI features (e.g. "surprise me" or recipe imports) — stored to power your weekly plan and shared with your household

• We do not collect location, contacts, financial info, or any data beyond what's needed to run the app. We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs of any kind.

How we use it

• To run core app features: authentication, household membership, weekly meal planning, and pantry tracking

• Photos and text prompts are sent to Google's Gemini API via our own backend, solely to power AI features like receipt/pantry scanning, recipe import, and AI-suggested dishes

• We never sell your data or use it for advertising

Where it's stored

• Your account and household data are stored in Google Firebase (Authentication + Firestore database)

• Data is encrypted in transit

• Some settings (like haptics or screensaver preferences) are stored only on your device and never leave it

• Household data (pantry, dishes, menus, recipes) is shared only with the members of your own household — never with other users or the public

Third parties we use

• Google Firebase — authentication and data storage

• Google Gemini API — AI processing for photos and text prompts you submit

• Both process data only as needed to provide the feature you requested — neither is used for advertising

Your choices

• Photo scanning is optional — you can add pantry items or dishes manually instead

• You can delete your account and its data at any time — see the Delete your account page for how

Children's privacy

Miso is intended for users aged 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. If we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
